Why Did It Happen To Me, by Elgin Davis

For Immediate Release

Author and Foundation President Elgin Davis

To Host Jacksonville Book Signing and Special Event

ORLANDO, FL – (January 18) - Elgin Davis, former running back for the New England Patriots and the President of the Elgin Davis Foundation, will return to his hometown of Jacksonville for a special event at The City Hall Pub on January 21, 2001.  The City Hall Pub is located at 234A Philip Randolph Boulevard in Jacksonville.

Play Date Jacksonville will feature Elgin in a book signing for his memoirs, Why Did It Happen to Me, and will also be a reunion event as Elgin hosts the Class of ’83 Happy Hour from 6 pm to 9 pm for his classmates from Ribault Senior High School.

In Why Did It Happen to Me, Elgin takes readers through his early childhood with its times of adversity and poverty but of great parental love and support as well.  He describes the beginning of his football career with a local pee-wee team and brings the reader along through his playing days at Ribault High School, the University of Central Florida and then with him as he reaches his goal to play in the NFL, doing so with the New England Patriots.  His memoirs tell of the great pain and despair he suffered at the loss of his best friend and former teammate to a murderer’s gun, and how he was able to rise again from that tragedy.

Elgin currently works in real estate in Orlando, where he has formed and will lead his new nonprofit organization, The Elgin Davis Foundation.  The Foundation’s mission is to raise funds and support programs to provide aid and assistance to individuals in national and international crises and to develop and support programs that enrich the lives of disadvantaged youth through activities to promote health and physical fitness, education, character development and leadership skills.  Information about the Foundation is available at www.elgindavisfoundation.org.

Books will be available for purchase at the event and through Elgin’s website at www.elgindavis.com.  In addition, at The City Hall Pub beginning at 9:30 PM, there will be more entertainment with board games, Old School video games and music by DJ Shotgun.  Earlier in the evening, music will be provided by Live Band.
